About the conference

The Erlang Factory SF Bay is a two-day tech conference focused on the Erlang programming language. It brings together the rapidly growing community that uses Erlang in order to showcase the language and its various application to today's distributed environments. Those less familiarized with the language get first-hand accounts on how companies solve real-world challenges using Erlang. Training courses on Erlang, OTP and other tools ad solutions based on the language are usually organised around the conference.

We organize the Erlang Factories with a Programme Committee that includes a number of respected industry experts who are defining technology today and pushing trends for the future. Our Programme Committee members include:

• Russell Branca - a programmer at Cloudant, CouchDB aficionado, enjoyer of food, and father to a red headed tornado of a toddler;
• Francesco Cesarini - Founder and Technical Director of Erlang Solutions; frequent speaker at conferences worldwide, including OSCON, QCON, JAOO, YOW!, ACCU, GOTO and many more; Concurrent Programming lecturer at the University of Oxford;
• Fred Hebert - the author of Learn You Some Erlang for Great Good!, currently on Heroku's routing team, working on large scale distributed systems in the cloud;
• Kyle Patterson - Senior software engineer at Linden Lab, hardware tinkerer, maker, organizer of ErLounge SF;
• Susan Potter - Susan has built software in a number of environments, languages, and paradigms. She has worked in application as well as systems development at SaaS startups, and developed software for front- and middle- office systems at trading firms before that;
• Tom Santero - a Technical Evangelist for Basho Technologies, with previous experience in the finance industry in equity sales and trading. Passionate about open-source software and technology, as well as building automated trading systems;
• Ram C Singh - CEO of Afiniate, Inc. Thinker Schemer Solver Guy providing mission-critical solutions as an entrepreneur, engineer, enterprise architect, and business management consultant. Co-founder of ErlangDC. Co-organizer of ErlangCamp;
• Garrett Smith - Senior Architect at CloudBees, a leading Java PaaS provider; Creator of the e2 library and the MongoDB is Web Scale videos;

Code of Conduct

All attendees, speakers, sponsors and volunteers at our conference are required to agree with the following code of conduct. Organisers will enforce this code throughout the event. We are expecting cooperation from all participants to help ensuring a safe environment for everybody.

The Quick Version

Our conference is dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any conference venue, including talks, workshops, parties, Twitter and other online media. Conference participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference without a refund at the discretion of the conference organisers.

The Less Quick Version

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

Sponsors are also subject to the anti-harassment policy. In particular, sponsors should not use sexualized images, activities, or other material. Booth staff (including volunteers) should not use sexualized clothing/uniforms/costumes, or otherwise create a sexualized environment.

If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the conference organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the conference with no refund.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of conference staff immediately. Conference staff can be identified as they'll be wearing branded t-shirts.

Conference staff will be happy to help participants contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the conference. We value your attendance.

We expect participants to follow these rules at conference and workshop venues and conference-related social events.

Erlang Solutions Ltd. organises two Erlang Factory conferences each year - in the San Francisco Bay Area and in London. The Erlang Factory is a way of bringing together the growing community that are using Erlang in many and varied ways, in order to showcase the language and its application to today's growing distributed environments. In 2009 the company took over the organization of the Erlang User Conference in Stockholm – the oldest Erlang conference in the world, run annually since 1994 (except 1996 when everybody was busy developing the first version of OTP). The Erlang Factory website is also being used to aggregate slides and videos from other Erlang conferences which are not organised by Erlang Solutions Ltd. In this way we are enabling knowledge flow within the Erlang community and the promotion of the Erlang language outside of it.
